My Skincare Regimen

I was pretty lucky as a teen to have great skin. Then I ended up being that mid-twenties person who’s skin acted up and it was all downhill from there. For years, I was convinced that I had acne prone skin. Well turns out, I have sensitive skin that breaks out usually when I’m stressed {which obviously never happens…}. Once I started treating it like that, my skin really cleared up and looked great! So…here are the products I’m using right now. I think mostly all of these I’ve been using for a at least a couple of months, so I feel pretty good about them.

1. Korres Greek Yoghurt Cleanser : This cleanser works great–it takes off most of my daily makeup, which is helpful and it foams a little bit, which I do like. I’ve been switching back and forth between this and the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. Both are great and work similarly.

2. Clarisonic Mia Fit Facial Cleanser: I had a Clarisonic a while ago and my skin went bananas so I ended up giving it away. I decided to give it another try and am really glad I did. I have the Radiance brush head, which is not very aggressive, but definitely helps brighten up my face. After I bought it, I realized I was never using it because it took so long at bedtime and I just wanted to GO TO SLEEP. So I moved it to the morning and it’s made all the difference.

3. Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Cream: Now that I’m solidly in my 30s, I finally got onto the eye cream bandwagon. I’ve tried a couple of different ones, but I’ve really enjoyed this one. It’s very light and I feel like my eyes are a lot brighter and seem less tired–which is impressive given that I work nights and never sleep.

4. Fresh Vitamin Nectar Moisturizer: I love this moisturizer. It feels so nice on the skin, but is not heavy and greasy. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have SPF in it, but luckily I use a tinted moisturizer that has SPF.

5. First Aid Beauty Retinol Serum: I love First Aid Beauty All their products are specifically for sensitive skin and it really doesn’t irritate the skin at all.

6. Herbivore Blue Tansy Resurfacing Mask: Two awesome things about this mask: it’s blue and it smells so earthy. I think the smell may be a love or hate thing, but I personally like it. This also has the advantage of not being harsh on the skin either–but has definitely helped minimize my old acne scars.

The Love List: Late Spring

I figure every couple months I’ll be inspired and perhaps post something. Or maybe I’ll post more frequently. Anyway, after a couple of months without buying clothing–mainly because I wasn’t really in love with anything, I suddenly had to have ALL THE CLOTHES. Isn’t it funny how one second you can decide to never buy anything again and the next second you’re debating moving so you can have more closets? I know these are ‘late spring’ looks and soon it will be 95 degrees and we’ll all be dying a slow death, but a lot of these can transition to summer.

  1. Madewell Cold Shoulder Shirt: When this whole cold shoulder trend came out, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. Then I saw it on enough people that I was like yup…I have to have it. While this shirt is long sleeve, I actually wore this on a day that was 85 with shorts on a day that we went to Brooklyn and I felt amazing–probably because it’s made out of linen.
  2. Uniqlo Legging Pants: I know the trend is bell bottoms and stuff, but I feel like those cuts kind of overwhelm my short little legs. Also, these are basically leggings with back pockets–i.e. the dream! I’ve worn these to work before {the black ones}.
  3. Uniqlo Bomber Jacket: This is the perfect spring jacket. A little bit warm for those blustery days, but still lightweight, can be dressed up and down, and can take a little rain. This comes in matte and one with a little sheen. I opted for the olive, which feels neutral, but stands out a little.
  4. Vans Slim Sk8 Zip Hi-Tops: These are actually in leather, which makes them a little more polished than the canvas hi-tops. I got these in the black and gold version, but the lighter colors are great for spring/summer. Just a warning–these take a couple wears to break in the leather, but now they’re super comfortable!
  5. Madewell Headliner Sunglasses: While everyone has Raybans, the Wayfarers are way too narrow for my wide round face. They look ridiculous–I’ve tried. I love these, especially because of the reflective lenses. These are that Wayfarer shape, but actually fit my face without being absurdly large. Plus they’re a nice thick tortoise, but not so heavy that they  hurt my face.
  6. Madewell Button Back Plaid Shirt: You can’t see it in this picture, but there’s buttons going down the back. This shirt is also made of linen, so it’s light and airy for summer, but can be warn with a light jacket {see number 3} for those cooler days. The tie front is also something fun and unexpected.

The Love List: My Makeup Routine

Disclaimer: I bought all of these products on my own. Neither Sephora nor any of these brands know who I am!

I’m one of those weird people that LOVES looking for a new apartment. The appeal to me is that you get to go into all these buildings that you may have walked by hundreds of times and actually get to see what it’s like to live inside! Anyway, I think I’m just nosy because I love posts people do about their daily routines–not necessarily just the Day in the Lifes, but also products that people use everyday. I feel like sometimes I find new favorites that way or new brands to check out. So in that light, here is a peek into my everyday makeup routine. Yup, just 4 products and it takes me about 10 minutes {like really 10 minutes, not 10 minutes but I mean 35}.  I will say I think I’ve talked about most of these products before, but thought I would just put them together to demonstrate how I use them.

  1. Nars Tinted Moisturizer: I’ve definitely talked about this before and it’s still my favorite. Now that I’ve been applying it with the Beauty Blender, I love it even more. I’ve been using this stuff for over 3 years now and just bought by third tube. And I wear it everyday–that’s how long it lasts. I was considering getting a different moisturizer or potentially foundation and then though to myself–why change? And I’m so glad I haven’t!
  2. Nars The Multiple: I talked about this before too, but this just goes to show that I really like this  stuff and actually use it. I know a lot of people that swear by Orgasm, but I find it a little too glittery for my taste. I tried G-Spot {sense a theme?} and fell in love. It makes it so easy to get ready in the morning. Just a few swipes on the cheeks and then I blend it in with my fingers. Done!
  3. Dior Addict-It Lash: I’ve tried a bunch of different mascaras and my problem is always that I like how waterproof mascara doesn’t run, but also comes off easily. Apparently that is very hard to find. I would either end up with mascara that was impossible to get off or flakes all day everyday. I decided to try Dior mascara, and while it made me ill to spend this kind of money on mascara, I’m really happy with it.  I feel like it comes off relatively easy and doesn’t flake at all.
  4. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner: I don’t wear this everyday, but it’s probably gets used half the time on a regular day and definitely on special occasions. I think it’s easy to apply and adds a little oomph when you need it.

The Love List: Summer Edition

Summer 2016

Obviously doing things I like monthly is just not working at all. So I decided to throw together a little list of things I’ve really been digging this summer. And this works out because it’s still summer! I know that it’s Labor Day weekend, but why let that keep you down! Also one of the many great things about moving to NYC is the fact that it remains warm for weeks after Labor Day.
