Chocolate Pecan Tart

by Manasi

IMG_9171

Whew–where do the months go? I can’t believe that I haven’t posted so much lately, but apparently being a mom plus restarting clinical rotations equals no time for blogging. I’ve most definitely covered my love for Thanksgiving many times, so I won’t go into that again. Our usual family tradition entails buying a pecan pie from a local bakery. Actually it’s usually two pecan pies as one gets demolished that night and it’s always nice to have additional pie available for breakfast, I mean dessert. Oh don’t judge me…everyone eats pie for breakfast. This year, we were perusing the Thanksgiving issue of Bon Appétit and found a couple of recipes that looked so fantastic that we decided to change up our menu. I know–stranger things have happened. read more »

A Plum Tart for Dad

by Manasi

IMG_8718

My dad is a man of few words, but a man who knows what he wants. He came up to me a year or so ago and told me he wanted a plum tart for his birthday. I’m pretty sure this was several months before his birthday, but he was very specific. Fortunately, his birthday is in August and plums are in season then. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get it done that year, so the plum tart got put on the back burner. read more »

Amazing Zucchini Bread

by Manasi

IMG_8708

Poor old zucchini–the neglected vegetable of summer. Zucchini gets lost amongst all the other, sexier produce that comes along with summer and gets lumped in with summer squash. After you’ve grilled or roasted it, there’s isn’t that much left in zucchini’s repertoire. Maybe zucchini fries? Lately I’ve seen zucchini fritters that are just the carb hater’s latkes. Then there are quick breads: banana bread obviously wins with perhaps pumpkin coming in a close second. Zucchini bread, on the other hand, is the one that always grosses kids out (myself included).  read more »

Strawberry Shortcakes

by Manasi

It’s weird living in New England as you suffer through a long winter, surviving only because of the promise of a 5-second summer on the other end. Every year it’s worth it though–I LOVE summer. Among all the awesome things about summer, my favorite thing is all the delicious produce that starts pouring out of the farm stands. I may not love living in Central Massachusetts, but all the local farms are really great. The only downside is that they turn me off of the gross and waxy tomatoes that the grocery stores try to peddle in January.

Hazelnut Macarons

by Manasi

I know I’ve talked about my baking bucket list before. What a weirdo I am, right? I’m too lazy to search through all my posts (yes, all 102 of them) to find the post where I talked about it, so I’ll just talk about it again. Now I don’t have to think of some unique and witty content. Well, I’ll always be witty, yes? Anyway, there are multiple things that I’ve always wanted to tackle–if even just once. After going to Paris on our honeymoon and gorging on macarons, I realized that in order to get some more of that macaron goodness, I was going to have to make them myself. Actually, I suppose I could go to New York and and go to Laduree, but clearly that’s excessive. read more »

Cream Cheese Cinnamon Rolls

by Manasi

This past Monday, I woke up early and decided to go to the gym before my day started–it was my first day back on rotations. I was running a little late and rushed out, headphones and water bottle in hand, and as the door clicked closed, I realized I didn’t have my keys. Of course our condo door locks itself automatically. Ugh. Luckily my neighbor was just on her way out the door to work and spared me a couple minutes with her phone so I could beg my dad to bring over my extra set of keys. Overall, not a good morning. read more »

Hummingbird Cupcakes…and 100 posts!

by Manasi

Wow….so this is my 100th post! Can you believe it? I feel like it probably took me a while, but I finally made it! I wanted something special and though these were not made specifically for my 100th post, I think these cupcakes are still pretty special since I made them for my mom’s birthday. Rabi and I recently went to DC and I was excited to find Georgetown Cupcakes the first night I went to walk around town. I was pretty excited to try them, though I’m always a little hesitant when I try a cupcake bakery as they tend to be expensive and can be so disappointing. Fortunately, I loved every single thing I tried and wished I had gone back a couple more times to try some of their more unique flavors. Hopefully next time! read more »

Brown Butter Blueberry Muffins

by Manasi

I feel like I make a lot of blueberry muffins. Well, when Joy the Baker put out a cookbook, I snatched it up pretty quickly. I’m pretty sure I will eventually make every single thing from that book, but my first recipe was these muffins. I’m not sure why  I love muffins so much, but they were one of my go to childhood breakfasts. Of course you could make them healthier with wheat flour or no butter, but really, that’s not why I eat muffins. Plus the ones you make at home don’t tend to be as large as your head like you find at a bakery. And since we’ve already filled our muffin with all the ‘good’ ingredients, you may as well go all the way and add a crumb topping. Live a little! read more »

New York Style Crumb Cake

by Manasi

Don’t you love ‘style’ foods? New England style clam chowder or Chicago style pizza…is it really from those places? Anyway, this coffee cake recipe is from the Baked cookbook, whose authors are from New York, so perhaps this is true to form. Well, at least that’s what the story leading up to the recipe says. I mean, I’m just a girl from Central Mass…what do I know? read more »

Chocolate Quake Cake

by Manasi

I have no words for this cake. I got in from the fabulous website Sprinkle Bakes, who really means it when she says that she combines art with baking. I envy her beautiful baking and superb photography. I also envy the people around her who get to eat all of that deliciousness. On a side note, I will one day live in my fantasy world where Ina Garten is my friend and makes me fabulous meals that we eat on the beach or on a boat in that Hamptons. Who are these people and how do I get their lives? read more »
